Automotive OEM + Tier X

The abbreviation “OEM” or “Original Equipment Manufacturer” is used in strategic supplier management in the automotive industry and describes the manufacturers at the top of the supplier pyramid.

DOCERAM’s strong customer focus in the market and a close business relationship with the OEM has not only led to greater process reliability and process stability in production plants in the automotive industry but has also created new business opportunities for the use of high-performance ceramics and their components.

Many companies are involved in the production of a car: They ensure that countless cars roll off production lines every day. The suppliers (tiers) of the automotive manufacturers (OEMs) are categorised as Tier-1, Tier-2 and Tier-3 according to their position in the supply chain.

Ensuring supplies of parts down to the nearest second is a major challenge for every OEM (Just-in-Time or Just-in-Sequence production strategy). For this reason, the OEM as well as all suppliers - irrespective of category (Tier X) - are reliant on precise, reliable and efficient processes. Punctuality and price pressure are the defining characteristics of this industry.
